Frequently Asked Questions

Is Underfloor Heating (UFH) more expensive than radiators ?

The actual cost of buying and installing Easi-fit Pipe would be very similar to the cost of buying and installing radiators, obviously depending on size of house etc. UFH however uses lower water temperatures so is cheaper to run than other heating systems. It adds greater comfort and value to the property so UFH is an investment.

What happens if there is a leak ?

Easi-fit Pipe is manufactured to high quality standards and has TUV approval. It is tested on site to 6 bar pressure, i.e. 6 times higher than the normal operating pressure. There are no joints under the floor and the system is pressure tested before the floor is laid. Easi-fit Pipe can withstand pressures up to 70 bar, normal water pressure in the system would be only 1 bar.

Do I need a special boiler ?

No, any system that can heat water is suitable, but because UFH only requires low water temperatures and is an efficient system that complements efficient boilers such as the condensing type.

Is Easi-fit Pipe difficult to install ?

No, Easi-fit Pipe is easy to install, once you bend it to the required shape it stays in that shape, unless you want to change it. The pipe is laid out as indicated on the CAD drawings which we provide. The only joints required are at the manifold which is all above floor level.

Can a regular plumber fit Easi-fit ?

Yes, Easi-fit can be installed by almost anyone, we can recommend an installer near you and provide an installation manual to help ensure safe and effective installation.

We have radiators but can we put UFH in our extension and conservatory?

Yes, the design of the system and the controls available means UFH can fully integrate with your existing heating system. The TP5 controller can allow individual room heating so the conservatory can be kept warmer than other rooms in the house if desired. Underfloor Direct can supply a range of fittings to connect Easi-fit Pipe to any standard installation.

Do I need special floor coverings?

Almost any kind of floor covering can be used: tiles, carpet, timber boards, flagstone, ceramics, laminate. Some consideration should be given to the thickness and ability of the material to conduct heat, e.g. carpet underlay should not be too thick, wood less than 22mm.

Is it suitable for older buildings or restorations?

Yes, Easi-fit Pipe can be retro-fitted if floor boards are accessible or if the floor can be raised slightly. It is ideal for fitting in older buildings where high ceilings could not be heated practically by other systems.
